Toni Bou confirms the X-Trial World Championship he won last Saturday in Madrid – his fifth consecutive indoor trial title – with a triumph in the sixth and last round that took place today, the Milan Indoor Trial. The Repsol rider set a milestone in this speciality’s history, as he is the first ever rider to finish unbeaten and after taking all available points in the championship.
And if that was not enough, most of times he won with a considerable advantage over the second: 3 points in Genoa, 13 in Marseille, 18 in Barcelona, 12 in Geneva, 6 in Madrid and 8 in Milan.
Willing to keep his record, Toni Bou closed the qualifying round with no points and six less than his closest rival, the same difference he had in the en when he finished the semi-final, always in the lead. In the final round, the multiple times World Champion had his advantage reduced to just one point after three parallel race and the first individual area. But in the next, Bou showed again his great talent and arrived to the last sector knowing he was the winner.
Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa Cota 4RT) had to finish prematurely after receiving 18 points in the qualifying round.
Toni Bou
“We have finished in the best way possible a championship with a very high leve. I could not have asked for more. I felt very good. It’s my fifth year with this bike, it works perfectly and I knew it very well. With the title secured, today I wanted to enjoy it. It would have been a mistake not to take advantage of a very rare opportunity. Without obsessing about it, I wanted to finish unbeaten. I achieved both things, although the five points I lost in the parallel race, because I had pushed too hard, made me suffer a bit. Then I was the only one to get to the entrance of the last area and to be able to complete it was crucial”.
Takahisa Fujinami
“I made too many mistakes and I finished much earlier than what I would have wanted, but I was able to enjoy seeing what Toni is able to do. He was fantastic again”.
