The Repsol rider starts the defence of the title with a second position in the first day of the French Trial. Takahisa Fujinami finished fifth.
With the first of the two days of the French Trial, today started a new edition of the FIM Trial World Championship. Toni Bou started defending his World Championship title with a good result, as he achieved the second position today on French soil. With an overall difference of only two points with the winner, Adam Raga, the Repsol rider kept his chances to victory until the last moment. His team mate, Takahisa Fujinami, finished in fifth.
With this second place, Toni Bou, winner of the FIM Trial World Championship the last five years, took the second place of the overall standings, only 3 points behind the leader. Nevertheless, the Repsol rider will not have to wait too much to go back to the fight. Tomorrow he will have another chance to keep adding points in the second and last day of the French Trial with a score independent from that of today.
Once finished the French Trial, the FIM Trial World Championship will visit for Aussie territory for the first time for the next round of the series, the Australian Trial is scheduled for May 26th and 27th.
Toni Bou
“When you don’t win, the second place is the best possible result. Naturally, I can’t be very happy, but things are like that. Adam was very strong and I made a big mistake at the end of the second zone in the second lap that conditioned my final result, as the round did not have a very high difficulty and it was very complicated to recover. If tomorrow it doesn’t rain, it will be an easy trial again, but for that same reason, it doesn’t lack pressure”.
Takahisa Fujinami
“I had a very bad day. The starting order didn’t benefit me and I entered the zones without any references and without feeling comfortable. I lacked confidence and it is not normal to take so many points. I hope things will be different tomorrow. I will be in the first group, I will have reference and I will know better how the bike responds in this terrain”.
