Toni Bou stays in the lead of the World Indoor Trial Championship

Toni Bou stayed at the top of the overall classification of the FIM World Indoor Trial Championship after finishing second in the second round held yesterday in Marseille. The reigning champion was the star of an exciting end to the day after having put in the best classification lap – 5 points- two fewer than his closest rival.

Bou started the sixth and penultimate zone as the leader on the day, but the two penalty points he received on that section and another on the following sector, took him down to second place.

The penultimate zone was also unlucky for the other Repsol rider, Takahisa Fujinami, as the 4 points he received finally took him away from the podium finish that he had occupied up to that moment. The Japanese rider was fourth in the end, the same result he had been in at the end of the classification lap (10 points).

Toni Bou will defend his position at the top of the leaderboard in the Barcelona Indoor Trial round that will be held on 8th February in the Palau Sant Jordi whose final laps will be shown on the Canal+ Sports Channel from 7pm onwards.

Toni Bou

“Competition riding is like this; sometimes you win by one point and other times, like today, you lose by the same amount. This was trial at the highest level, with difficult sections, a small mistake on the final lap cost me a very vital point. I think that the result is not too bad and the most important thing is that I am still in the overall lead of the World Championship”.

Takahisa Fujinami

“During most of the day I was on the way to a podium finish, and that would have been a very positive result. But the penultimate zone was a bit of a disaster and from then on the chances of finishing third did not depend on me”.
