Toni Bou still leads the World Championship, after finishing second at the Palau Sant Jordi

Repsol rider Toni Bou still leads the general classification of the World Indoor Trials Championship, after competing this Sunday in Barcelona, during the second scoring round, where the title holder finished in second place. Winner of the first event of the season, Toni Bou has had an excellent qualifying lap, which he closed with just one point, to seven by the other two finalists.

During the play-off, the Repsol rider made three big mistakes, the last of them in the eleventh before last zone, where he had reached only one point ahead of the later winner and with clear options of leading for the third time in a row at the Palau Sant Jordi.

Takahisa Fujinami was only a step away from the final, finishing fourth in the qualifying round.Toni Bou will defend his leadership at the third test for points, which will be disputed next Saturday 9th Febuary, in Granada.

Toni Bou
“I made a couple of mistakes competing against a very strong rival, and that explains the result. After winning at Marseille I already commented on the importance that each victory has in a championship as short as this one, where I think it is fundamental that I follow the principles that gave us such good results the year before; to go race by race. Today I could not win, but the positive side is that I am still in the lead.”

Takahisa Fujinami
“In Marseille I was much closer to reaching the final. Last year I made it to the podium here in Barcelona and obviously, I would have liked to repeat that result in a tough competition like this one. It could not be, I made more mistakes than I should have and my rivals were very strong.”
