Toni Bou wins and is just a point away from retaining his world title

The Repsol rider won the Spanish GP. Takahisa Fujinami, second, rounds off a successful weekend for the Repsol Montesa – HRC team.

The Repsol riders Toni Bou & Takahisa Fujinami finished 1st and 2nd in the 10th round of the World Trial Championship held today, Sunday, in the town of Tona (Barcelona). This was his 7th victory in this year`s championship, Bou just needs one more point to retain the title for the third consecutive year.

The Repsol rider put in the best performance of the day, receiving just 21 penalty points, compared to his terammate`s 29, and the 42 given to Jeroni Fajardo, 3rd. After a very closely fought first lap Bou was able to mark a difference on the final zones, and so faced the second pass with a 3 point lead over Fujinami and 10 over Raga. On the second pass the Repsol rider was the best once again, with Fujinami in a good 2nd place, which was the Repsol Montesa – HRC team`s third one-two of the season.

With this result Montesa no longer has to wait to celebrate another World Constructors` title as it was wrapped up today mathematically. The Riders` Championship will be decided next Sunday at Isola 2000 (France), the final round and where Takahisa Fujinami will defend his third place in the overall.

Toni Bou
“This was tough because of the heat, the dust and also the tension, since for a large part of the first lap the classification was very tight and any mistake could have left us off the podium. In the end I got a very important victory. I am just one point away from the title, but the fact that I know that I am so close does not mean that it is already in the pocket, as there is one round left. I will approach it the best way I can”.

Takahisa Fujinami
“I am very satisfied, both for me as well as the team. I was in with a chance of winning for a long time and in a race that was very tough, but Toni [Bou] once again demonstrated his great strenght. I have 3rd position overall in the championship and I am telling you that I do not want to lose it”.
