A crash by Joan Mir in the sprint race causes bruising to his right ankle
The day started cloudy at Termas de Río Hondo, with the first drops of rain falling during the morning practice sessions for Moto3. The MotoGP riders undertook free practice and qualifying under light rain.
Joan Mir began with a good pace, setting the seventh best place in free practice. However, rain that fell during the first qualifying session prevented him from going into Q2, and pushed him back to eighteenth position on the grid.
In the sprint race, the Repsol Honda Team rider had a great start that allowed him to gain several positions. Despite this, coming into Turn 7 of the first lap, he fell and suffered a heavy knock to his right ankle. No major injuries were detected in initial tests carried out at the circuit medical center, but he was transferred to the Santiago hospital for further check-ups as a preventive measure.
