Victory and lead for Bou at home race

The Repsol rider wins the Spanish Grand Prix and takes the lead in the overall standings. Third place overall for Takahisa Fujinami, who finished fourth today.

The Repsol Montesa Honda rider, Toni Bou, achieved a crushing victory at the Spanish Grand Prix that took place on Sunday at Pobladura de las Regueras (Leon). With this triumph, his third in the current edition of the Trial FIM World Championship, the Repsol rider recovered the lead of the overall standings six rounds before the end of the series. His team mate, Takahisa Fujinami make some progress after the two days of the previous round and finished fourth, six points away from the second. This result allowed the Japanese rider to keep the third position overall.

Three passes through a very difficult route –with 12 zones– and the strict application of the rules by the marshals decided the outcome of this seventh round of the Outdoor Championship. Toni Bou felt comfortable under those conditions and dominated the first and third passes, though losing the second for just one point. Takahisa Fujinami kept improving his score in each pass.

The next round of the Trial FIM World Championship will be the Italian Grand Prix that will take place next July 7th in Barzio.

Toni Bou

“It was a very difficult round, with very complicated zones. I felt good from the beginning and I was comfortable on the bike, which allowed me to build an advantage very soon. I feel satisfied for recovering the lead of the Championship. Two consecutive wins are very important, as well as being again on top of the overall standings. This is the best way to recover our confidence and motivation.”

Takahisa Fujinami
“I don’t know how to express my feelings. To finish fourth is not a good result, but I think that finishing six points away for the second is a very small difference in such a difficult round. That is why, seeing that I make progress from the last round, I feel reasonably satisfied. The worst thing was the mistake in the second zone of the last pass, which was very easy. It was there where I lost all changes to get on the podium.”
