Victory and lead for Toni Bou

The Repsol rider wins and takes the lead of the World Championship. Fourth place for Takahisa Fujinami, fifth in the overall standings.

The second day of the French Trial Grand Prix saw Toni Bou’s best side, as he took the lead of the Trial World Championship overall standings after winning in today’s round. The Repsol rider, who yesterday finished second, has an advantage of six points over his closest rival after this first double round of the series, where he is defending the title he has achieved the last five years. His team mate, Takahisa Fujinami, improved his yesterday’s result and finished fourth.

Bou based his success on consistency and on his usual precision, as he did very few mistakes in a race that again offered a low technical difficulty. The Repsol rider added 3 points in the first lap and 4 in the second, half of what received the two rivals that accompanied him on the podium, Fajardo y Cabestany.

His team mate at the Repsol Montesa Honda, Takahisa Fujinami, improved his performance in France, although two mistakes in the first lap made him finish again just outside the podium. He ended tied with Adam Raga and the final outcome was favourable to the Japanese rider because he had finished more zones without any penalty. In the next round, the Trial World Championship will visit Australia for the first time ever, as on May 26th and 27th will take place the third and fourth rounds.

Toni Bou
“After what we saw today, I didn’t think it was possible to close the weekend with so many points of advantage and as World Championship leader, so the win gives even more satisfaction. The difficulty level has not changed, so we had to suffer again, as being an easy round it was crucial to avoid mistakes. The second pass through the zones was again decisive; I focused and I was able to gradually build my margin”.

Takahisa Fujinami
“I feel better than yesterday about the result, but I am not satisfied because I could have finished second. I made two absurd mistakes in the first lap and without them I could have finished just behind Toni [Bou]. Apart from that everything went well. I felt more confident than yesterday and I think I am the one with more ceros in the zones. That motivates me a lot to improve in the next round”.
