We arrived in Australia in high spirits after the great set up we got on the bike in Japan. We could say that this circuit is not among Dani`s favourites, due the bad memories he has from racing in 125cc. Although it is also true that this is where he won in 250cc.
At this time of the year the weather is not the best for having a good Grand Prix. It was cold, rainy and windy, and taking everything together we had the sensation of being in a gymkhana during practice: we began in the wet, towards the halfway mark the asphalt had dried out, but at the end it was wet again. All this produced quite a lot of stress in the pits as we had to constantly change the set up on the bike. But in the end we got a good pace for the race, and what is more pole position.
On the Sunday morning, when practice finished Dani was rehearsing a start but he ended up on the ground damaging some parts of the bike This meant that in the race he had to use the second bike that he had hardly touched in practice.
Of the five types of tyres that we had to choose from on the Thursday, and with the sun and the highest temperature coming on the day of the race, the final selection didn’t bring the expected results. While the tyre lasted, Dani was in the fight, but in the end he had to make do with fourth position.
Right after the race without even a short pause we began to pack our bags and boxes for the trip to Malaysia, because in three days we will already be preparing another race, and I hope that it ends better than this one.
