Biography

Born in France in 1969, Yvan Muller made his start in the world of competitions at the age of eleven, through Karting. He later made the jump to the French Formula 3 Championship, where he was third in 1989, before becoming the British F2 Champion, then taking a further leap to Formula 3000 in 1993. Since 1995, Yvan Muller competes in car racing, first in the French championship, where he became champion that same year, and later in the UK, where he competed from 1999 to 2005, becoming the Champion in 2003 and runner-up on four occasions (2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005).

In 2006, Muller made his debut in the WTCC with SEAT, taking a victory in Brands Hatch and a further two in 2007 -Oschersleben and Monza-, which gave him a final second position in the World Championship.

In 2008, as runner-up the objective was none other  than to fight for the world title, at both individual and team level thanks to the potential of the team built by SEAT and Repsol.

After some intense preparatory work things could  not have started better, a victory in the first race in Curitiba, Brazil. Another two victories at Imola and Monza, along with six podium finishes achieved by showing a high level of consistency meant he was up with the leaders in most of the races. This meant that at the end of the season he was at the top of the leaderboard, what is more with his teammate Gabriele Tarquini as his closest rival. In the end the final race in Macao let him make up for the disappointment of the previous year, the title was snatched away from him there, and be crowned World Champion of the WTCC.
